It was an absolute pleasure having Kate as our keynote and workshop presenter.  Her talent is amazing! - Lori Wilder, Superintendent of Education, Bluewater District School Board, Chesley, ON

Kate's music and her dyamic question-and-answer format opened a space for students to learn about the challenges LGBTQ students face on a daily basis. My class expressed that Kate's performance provided a great model of social justice activism and inspired them to work even harder to create a safe and welcoming school where every student feels like they belong and have important contributions to make.  - Virginia Puddicombe, Social Science Department, Kingston Collegiate & Vocational Institute, Limestone District School Board, Kingston, ON

Kate has a fabulous voice and energizes the room with her positive spirit. She was able to connect with many of our students and have a significant impact on them. Her friendly, easy-going nature made it easy for students to ask sensitive/challenging questions which she happily answered. Great concert and great feedback from students! - Liselle Prickett, Vice-Principal, Twin Lakes Secondary School, Simcoe County School District, Barrie, ON

Kate performed at Penetanguishene Secondary School today, and her concert was a phenomenal success. Her energy and enthusiasm were infectious and really engaged the students. She has an incredible talent and presence, and her writing workshops provided valuable strategies for self-reflection and insight. - Jenn Coutts, Penetanguishene Secondary School, Simcoe County District School Board, Barrie, ON

Given that many of our students are bombarded with conflicting messages from home, Kate's straight up talk and gestures of hope will stay with me along with my vocal class for many years to come. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. And BLESS Kate for her wonderful bravery and courage. - Alison, Vocal Class Instructor, Queen Elizabeth Collegiate & Vocational Institute, Limestone School District, ON, Canada

She facilitates a discussion with participants encouraging them to reflect on how the lyrics connect to their own lives and to greater society. Lively and powerful discussion always ensue during this workshop with the goal to inspire participants. Some of the questions Kate poses in this workshop are: What is the message in this song? What does this song say about gender or sexual identity? What is the point of using humour in this song? What stereotypes does this song challenge or reinforce? Did any particular lyrics in this song resonate with you and if so which ones and why? What does this song say about staying true to yourself, in the midst of social pressure? Then, working with metaphor and the concept of “identity”, participants will explore themselves and their experiences as they engage in exercises that assist them in tapping into their creative expression. Some of the questions Kate poses in this workshop are: What is your story? How has your story shaped you? What do you want your story to look like in the future? How will you use your story to serve humanity? Along with producing some samples of writing, participants will leave this workshop with a “tool box” of exercises to inspire their creative writing process. I had the pleasure of joining an ENG2P class with Kate Reid. I was so impressed by the student's willingness to write and open up about their personal journeys. This particular class has struggled a great deal with friendships and some in-class bullying. I think Kate was just what they needed. Thanks for bringing this opportunity to us. I was so impressed (and am now shopping for her music on ITunes)! Thank you! - Tanya Fraser, Vice Principal, Huntsville High School, Trillium-Lakelands District School Board - Huntsville, ON, Canada

Kate Reid's concert was absolutely flawless. Her unique style and quirky humor definitely added a spunky new twist on the artists who are now considered the "best" in modern day society. Kate's songs were emotional and very well written, with no restrictions. Her excellent stage presence was undeniable, speaking openly about her experiences as a lesbian artist. Kate is truly inspirational, and I strongly admire her for all her work in the LGBTQ community and aspire to be such a confident woman like her some day. - Student, Simcoe County School District -  Barrie, ON, Canada

I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed having Kate Reid at the school. We chose an unplugged concert/chat with Kate that was a real success. Kate was so relaxed and comfortable with the kids that it allowed for some great discussion. I have had numerous students come up and ask me how they can keep in touch with Kate and asking when we can have her back. - Dave Golden, Principal, BMLSS, Trillium-Lakelands District School Board -  Baysville, ON, Canada

Quest University students and faculty had the wonderful pleasure of attending a workshop and concert  by Kate Reid. The intimate workshop gave students a chance to get to know the stories behind Kate’s music, as well as creating an open, safe environment to discuss queer issues. Kate’s performance left the students with a renewed sense of passion and esteem, showing them all that integrity, honesty and self-love can stay strong regardless of external pressure. - Ferin Lee Adams-Waneka + Tari Ajadi, Queer-Straight Alliance, Quest University - Squamish, BC, Canada

Kate Reid was the Artist-In-Residence at Camp fYrefly 2012, 2013 and 2014 (Leadership Camp for Queer and Allied Youth ages 13-24). Not only is she a very talented musician and performer, Kate is also a fantastic educator. Through her songs, writing workshops and performances, Kate not only entertained our youth campers, she also educated and empowered them to be confident in themselves and to never stop believing in the creation of a more just and loving world, which starts with each of us having the courage to speak our truth. It is without hesitation that I would highly recommend Kate as an artist and/or educator for any school, community or youth group. Kate lives authenticity which sends a message of hope to all youth who are struggling to find their much deserved space and place in the world. Kate’s songs and stories are not only changing lives, I have no doubt they are also saving them. - Dr. Kristopher Wells, Co-Founder + Co-Director Camp FYrefly/University of Alberta - Edmonton, AB, Canada
